Keeping the Romance Alive: Little Things That Matter in Marriage

Marriage—ah, that magical blend of love, patience, and some days, a whole lot of multitasking. You know what I mean, right? Between shuttling the kids around, making sure Rob doesn’t live on leftover pizza (oops, my bad), and trying to remember to get your own doctor’s appointment scheduled, sometimes it feels like the romance is just another thing on the to-do list. But I’ve got some good news—keeping that spark alive doesn’t have to be this big, grand gesture. In fact, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.

Take a moment to think about what made you fall for your partner in the first place. With Rob, it was his goofy smile (you know the one) and his ability to make me laugh even when I was stressed. Those little things still matter—like when he surprises me with a sweet text, or when he actually listens to me vent about my day (and doesn’t interrupt with his own “I’m so tired” story—ha!).

But let’s be real. Sometimes, life feels like it’s all about the kids. Jenny and Sam seem to always be one step away from needing something, and before I know it, it’s 10 p.m., and Rob and I are barely holding our eyes open. That’s when it’s time to get creative.

A little “hot and spicy” can go a long way. And I don’t just mean making your famous spicy chicken dinner (though, believe me, that helps). I’m talking about bringing back those little flirty moments. Maybe it’s texting each other during the day with a wink emoji. Or planning a surprise date night, even if it’s just in the living room after the kids have gone to bed (yep, I’m talking about a movie date with a side of romance).

And here’s the surprise I’ve been secretly planning for Rob—a boudoir photoshoot. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Wow.” But trust me, it’s a fun way to remind yourself that you’re still that confident, sexy person he fell in love with. Plus, I’m not gonna lie—I think Rob’s going to love it. It’s about more than just the photos. It’s about embracing who you are, having fun, and giving each other something to look forward to. And hey, it’ll probably spice up the bedroom a little too.

The little things make a big difference. Maybe it’s something as simple as a quick kiss on the cheek when you’re passing by, or sending a “thinking of you” text when you’re apart. Or, maybe you want to surprise your partner with something a little more bold. Either way, the important part is keeping that connection, even when life gets crazy (because, spoiler alert, it will).

So, what are you doing today to keep the romance alive? So, if you’re reading this—let’s just say you’ll be seeing a lot more of me soon. 😘 I’m gonna share my boudoir journey with you all.

And now, time for the joke of the day: Why don’t oysters donate to charity?

Because they’re shellfish! 😆
