GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY OPENS AUGUST 1st!!
I’m so excited that I finally get to tell you all about Guardians of the Galaxy! I have been waiting since the moment I stepped out of the screening 2 weeks ago. Seriously I was bursting at the seams to spill the beans about this film. I loved the movie so much that I screened it a second time with my husband, and I have tickets to take my boys tonight (opening night!). Yes, it’s THAT GOOD! So here are my thoughts and my review on this amazing movie:
Let me begin by telling you that I am not a comic book reader. While I enjoyed movies like the Avengers, Iron Man, and the like, I never learned the background of any of these movies before viewing them or read their comic book beginnings. That being said, I went into Guardians of the Galaxy, not really knowing the characters or their stories. I was a bit worried that I was going to be completely lost. This was not the case at all. You do NOT have to be a comic book guru to enjoy the Guardians.
Guardians of the Galaxy is genuinely enjoyable. I laughed so much during this movie. The team of Guardians are a group of “misfits”. Probably all very good candidates for therapy. Each of them have their own quirks and issues.
The movie begins with Peter Quill being taken off the earth by a spaceship as a child. We then see him all grown up and boogying on a planet far away to Redbone’s “Come And Get Your Love”. Kicking puddles and little creatures along the way. We find out that Peter is wanted and has a huge bounty on his head. Once the news of a bounty gets out, other characters begin making their appearance.
Rocket, a feisty, yet self-absorbed raccoon and his huge tree companion, Groot, are the first two characters on the hunt for Star-Lord. Groot is a tree of few words, yet throughout the movie you will learn that he has a huge heart. Rocket will have you laughing out loud. The poor raccoon is picked on throughout the movie, but never loses his humor.
Gamora, played by the beautiful Zoe Saldana, is an assassin, from a very dysfunctional family is also after Star-Lord. She has major daddy issues and an evil step-sister that ends up coming after her. She is a fighter, think martial arts meets assasin. Did I mention she is green?
The four of them land themselves in jail, where they meet Drax the Destroyer.
Drax the destroyer, played by Dave Bautista, is out to avenge his family. He is not happy with Gamora, since her father is the root of all of his issues, but he reluctantly joins the Guardians in hopes of getting close enough to her to kill her father. He is extremely literal which will keep you laughing throughout the movie. We soon learn he is a big softy.
This unlikely team pull together and are all after the bounty, except for Drax, who is just in it for revenge. The group go through quite the adventure. There is never a dull moment. You are either laughing (sometimes out loud!) or watching a fight scene. The movie is full of adventure, twists and turns, and maybe a moment of romance. Short-lived romance.
I will not spoil the ending for you all. I HIGHLY encourage you all to go and see it. As I said at the beginning, I am headed to watch it for the THIRD time tomorrow. I will have my Guardians of the Galaxy shirt on and will be jamming out to the soundtrack on the way to the theater. Great tunes on the soundtrack – check that out too!
