Mardi Gras at Universal Orlando
Mardi Gras at Universal Orlando is still in full swing. Through April 16th, join in on all the Mardi Gras fun at Universal Orlando. (select nights). We had the opportunity to head over to Universal Resort Orlando this past weekend to check out the party. And, it was definitely a PARTY!
Each night of Universal Orlando’s Mardi Gras, a different big-name headliner gets the party started—playing their biggest hits and favorite tunes live on stage. Plus, the food and New Orleans style music begins at 4pm on select nights. And, don’t miss the huge, colorful, and dance-worthy Mardi Gras parade with more beads then one person can handle. My daughter had to take off half of hers as they got too heavy. So I promise you, you WILL get plenty of beads!
Let’s Get This Party Started…
Head to Universal Resort Orlando during Mardi Gras in the morning so you can enjoy all the rides and shows before the BIG party starts. We had our own party trekking through the parks, riding thrill rides, and tasting some delicious treats. If you are a Universal Annual Passholder, you will be happy to know that the Mardi Gras concert IS included in your pass. If you’re not an Annual Passholder, head on over HERE for ticket information.
We started at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure. As a mom, I love that both Universal Orlando parks offer rides for both the little ones in the family and the big kids. Seuss Landing is a favorite of my 8 year old daughter. Plenty of rides like Cat in the Hat and the Seuss Trolley Ride. She could stay busy in Seuss Landing for hours.
Don’t leave Seuss Landing without a treat from their delicious candy shop. We opted for a big peanut butter cup cookie to share. Fresh and delicious!
On to Jurassic Park….
On to Jurassic Park where we spent an hour in the Discovery Center learning all about dinosaurs. Mom took this time to rest her feet! Don’t leave Jurassic Park without riding the Jurassic Park River Adventure! You will get wet, so be prepared. It’s a great way to cool off. Or, if you are not that adventurous, there are plenty of stores and kiosks at Universal Orlando to purchase a poncho for your rides.
Harry Potter Fans get ready to be WOWED! We headed to Hogsmeade next so we could take the Hogwarts Express to London (Universal Studios). But not without admiring the beautiful snow topped buildings, a delicious Butterbeer, and experiencing a roller coaster (or two). Whether you’re a fan of Harry Potter or not, you will love the architecture, as well as the thrill rides in Hogsmeade. And, if you have not tried a Butterbeer yet, prepare to succumb to a new delicious addiction.
We can’t leave the park without an ice cold (or two) Butterbeer drink. It’s delicious for the entire family.
Once we finished our time at Hogsmeade, we loaded onto the Hogwarts Express and headed to London…eh… Universal Studios. You will need to have a 2 park ticket to get on the train.
We made it over with plenty of time to spare to check out a few of our favorite rides at Universal Studios before grabbing a delicious beignet at the French Quarter. The French Quarter opens at 4:00pm on Mardi Gras event nights.
This French Quarter favorite is a freshly made fried doughnut that melts in your mouth. That’s not all. There are plenty of delicious Mardi Gras inspired foods to choose from. Funnel Cakes, Jambalaya, Creole Gumbo, red beans and rice, and more. Be sure to fill up as you’re about to dance and catch hundreds of beads at the Mardi Gras parade:
The floats were quite impressive. The dancers and characters were great! They made sure to engage the audience with high fives and some trickery by those jokers!
Once we wrapped up with the parade, it was time to ROCK OUT with REO Speedwagon. I absolutely LOVE the set up of Universal Orlando’s stage. You can sit head to the front or if you’re not into crowds, hang back and catch the artists on HUGE flat screens with amazing up close images.
Coming this weekend – TPain! Head over to check out the full list of upcoming artists for Universal Mardi Gras
Once the concert is over, head to CityWalk for even more New Orleans themed music, food and fun until 2 a.m. Simply show your paid admission to Mardi Gras and receive FREE general admission* to five unique clubs and bars – including Pat O’Brien’s®, CityWalk’s Mardi Gras headquarters.
CityWalk is one of our favorite places to eat, watch movies, and shop. There is SO much to do. Our favorite restaurant is CowFish!
Be sure to head to UNIVERSAL ORLANDO’S MARDI GRAS for ticket information.
