Orlando World Center Marriott Family Staycation
Calling all Floridians. We live in a place that everyone comes to vacation. Sun, fun, beaches, theme parks, and more. We have it all in our backyard. I’m here to help YOU vacation in your own hometown. Staycations can save you money on transportation. You can also save money just for being a Florida resident Ahh the perks of living where others vacation.
Our family really enjoys taking staycations. It’s rare that we can get away for long periods of time since the kids are so active in sports and clubs. When we do have that rare free weekend, we take advantage and play! No need to board a plane or train. We pack the car and drive to our destination. Beaches are as close as 40 minutes away. Sun is everywhere…just about year round.

This weekend was our last free weekend until Thanksgiving so we took advantage of an awesome hotel that was a short 35 minute drive from our home. The Orlando World Center Marriott is a premier resort in Orlando, just minutes from Disney and Universal. They offer free shuttle service to the parks and sell tickets in the lobby if needed. Not heading to the parks? No problem. You and the kids will stay busy with all the activities without leaving the hotel property. Or, if you choose, do absolutely nothing in their amazing pool lounge chairs or on-site spa.
Keep the kids busy:
SLIDES – enjoy THREE large slides. The water slide tower offers two 200-foot winding water slides and one 90-foot speed slide.
POOL – the pool is huge. Plenty of room for all to swim. Fun waterfalls to swim under as well. There is also an indoor pool!
KIDS AREA – let the younger kids splish and splash in the toddler area.
ARCADE – indoor arcade with old classics as well as a room with the Wii, Playstation, and XBOX!
ACTIVITIES – Legoland play area and a variety of arts and crafts offered. While we were there they offered hula hoop contests, fishing, bingo, and more!
DIVE In Movie – Each evening enjoy a family friendly movie while you lounge in or near the pool.
Kids’ World and Kids’ Night Out: The Kid’s World and Kid’s Night Out is a full-service Orlando World Center recreation program offered for guests ages 4 to 12. *fee applies
Nightly Poolside Laser Light Show
Live poolside music!

For the adults:
SPA – It’s not just about the kids. Take a break to rejuvenate at the spa this summer.
POOL CABANAS – want to enjoy the pool but prefer a large shaded spot? Rent a cabana!
GOLF – at Hawks Landing, guests can choose a golf package to attend clinics or classes at The Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf
STARBUCKS – located in the lobby – a MUST HAVE for me.
There are plenty of restaurants located on resort property. Choose from Italian food, a Japanese Hibachi restaurant, quick service sandwiches, treats, and MORE. If you do want to venture out, you are very close to Disney Springs and International Drive which both offer amazing restaurants and shopping.
Here are a few Orlando World Center Marriott Family Staycation Tips to save you some money and get the most out of your stay:
Bring along snacks and drinks. Each room has a mini fridge. We brought a case of water, 2 bowls of fruit, donuts, granola bars, and lunchables. We had plenty of snacks and enjoyed donuts with our free in-room coffee! There is also a Starbucks downstairs if you prefer. PERK: Free water cooler is located by the pool, so you can refill your water bottles with fresh cold water.
Room service The hotel does offer room service. There is a $5 fee (plus don’t forget to tip!). I looked over the menu and it wasn’t too bad in my opinion. Cheesecake slices for about $5, sandwiches $8-$10. Sometimes we just need to spoil ourselves.
Bring your floats You are allowed to bring your own tubes and floats for the pool. They do offer them there to purchase, but save your money and bring yours from home.
Netflix The TV has plenty of free channels and you can sign into your Netflix account in your room!
Leave your towels home No need to lug your towels from home or from your room. There were plenty of fresh towels at the two towel huts near the pool.
Height requirements If you have little ones, check the height requirements before heading out to the pool slides. You don’t want any upset kiddos if they aren’t tall enough.
Hours of operation The slides open at 11am. You may want to get a late checkout so you can enjoy even more slide time. Checkout is typically 11a, we asked for a late checkout and they allowed us to stay til 1pm! Slides close at 7pm. Pool closes at 11pm.
Rain is no problem In Florida it rains. A lot. A lot a lot. No worries. The pools and slides will remain open unless there is lightning. The activities may be moved into one of the conference rooms if the rain is heavy.
Lightning If there is lightning in the area, the alarm will go off and you will be asked to leave the pool area. Remember, this is Florida, the storm will pass and on the other side there will be SUN. This is a great time for a meal or a visit to the arcade. *Note: The arcade is NOT free.
Check the calendar This property hosts a lot of fun activities throughout the day. The activities are listed on the website and you can ask for a printout at the front desk. Hula hoop contests and bingo are just a few of the fun activities to enjoy.
Room choice I highly suggest you request a room with a view of the pool. This will give you a great vantage point for Disney’s nightly fireworks. And, you can watch the laser show from your balcony too (although it’s much better watching from the pool!).
I am always searching for staycation deals. My two go-to places for the best deals are hotels.com for hotels and resorts, and airbnb for cabins, condos, houses.(Get a $40 airbnb credit here) I LOVE the low prices and special deals found on hotels.com and I really love their rewards program. After you stay 10 nights, you get 1 night free. 10 nights not 10 separate vacation stays. Because I’m constantly searching for my next vacation (I LOVE to travel!), I know a good price when I see one. The lowest price I’ve seen for this hotel is $159/night. Definitely worth it.
I don’t want anyone to be surprised with the fees. There is a parking fee. I believe self parking was around $17 or you can choose valet was around $25 + tip. There is a resort fee, which is very typical here in the Orlando area. This is a nightly fee, not per person. There is a wifi fee as well, however, if you’re a Marriott Rewards member, the wifi is free. You can also just use your hotspot on your phone if that helps.
