Top 5 Reasons Your Teen Will Love Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Last month I had the opportunity to take my teen to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. She brought her best friend (also a teen) and my 8 year old daughter joined us. When we looked at the park online, the girls were not sure they would enjoy it as much as the other Disney World Parks. Boy, were they wrong! I have never seen them so smiley (If you have teens, you know that grumpiness is a common thing no matter how happy they are). If you are considering taking your older kids too, I thought I’d share the top 5 reasons why your teen will LOVE Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Side note: teen girls are not always willing to be in mom’s photos..however they are more than willing to take their own selfies and pics of their cute little sister….
REASON 1: The THRILLS
The teens had 3 favorite rides that they rode over and over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Can you guess what they are? In no particular order:
Here is a brief overview of each of the above “teen approved” rides:
Expedition Everest: The first true roller coaster in Animal Kingdom. Travel through the icy peaks of the Himalayas. At one point the you run into broken tracks…what happens next will shock you! Also, you will hurl 80 feet down the base of the cursed mountain and swoop in and out of murky caves and along jagged rocky ledges as you race to escape the dreaded monster before he catches up with you.
DINOSAUR: Take off on a scary, prehistoric tour aboard a rip-roaring Time Rover to save a dinosaur from extinction. Teens will love it. This ride does include loud sounds in the dark and menacing dinosaurs that may be scary for younger children.
Primeval Whirl: Take a trip aboard a spinning rollercoaster in this dinosaur-themed carnival-style attraction. Be prepared to take some dips and some spins. Mom got dizzy, teens gave it an A+++
Keep in mind, these were their TOP THREE. My daughter has always loved the Flights of Wonder and the River Rapids as well as a few others in the park.
Teens like to eat. Teens need to eat. Whether they are active or not, they are growing by leaps and bounds during their teen years. So, they eat. Not just the teen boys. Girls too! And they know what they like. My girls voted Animal Kingdom #1 for desserts and treats. The famous DOLE PINEAPPLE Whip modeled by younger sister Clara is above. This treat hit the spot and the pineapple makes it healthy, right? The teen girls ate this up. You can find these delicious refreshing whips at Tamu Tamu Refreshments in the Africa section of Animal Kingdom. They also serve other ice cream, sundaes, floats and smoothies.
Later, they took my recommendation and shared a delicious cupcake at the Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery.
Looking for full meals? Animal Kingdom has a dozen or more choices. We love the exotic dishes at the Tusker House Restaurant. I promise we didn’t just load up on sweets and treats. Although we wish we could!
Teens love to take photos and share them on social media. Have you seen a teen in action? These kids can take a photo, make it look like a masterpiece, add some fun text and manage to share in on Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and add it to their Vine video compilation before I have pulled my iPhone out of my purse. After years and years of blogging and photo editing, teens beat me in tech hands down.
Animal Kingdom has beautiful photo opps for families including teens. From the animals to the rides and the delicious and beautifully plated food, to the magnificent tree of life.
I may or may not have grabbed some of these from my daughters Instagram account!
It’s Animal Kingdom, there are animals. Whether you have an animal loving, kind hearted teen girl or boy, or a teen that want to see the strong, wild, and more dangerous animals, you will find it all at Animal Kingdom. The girls had a great time on the safari taking pictures of giraffes, zebras, and similar beautiful animals. While on the ride I thought about my 15 year old son at home. Would he enjoy feeding a giraffe or the petting zoo area? I’m not sure, but he WOULD love these:
Not to mention the lions and cheetahs we encountered along the way. Yup, both teen boys and teen girls will fall in love with the animals at Animal Kingdom. PS: My 8 year old daughter preferred the lions and hippos too.
There are also extras that you can purchase while at Animal Kingdom that the teens are sure to love. In the picture above, I was adventuring on Animal Kingdom’s Wild Africa Trek where I came in close contact with a variety of animals. I also faced my fears and crossed a rope bridge over crocodiles. Yikes! While we didn’t get to experience the trek during this visit, it’s on my teens list to check out on our next visit. There are other behind the scenes tours that may interest your teens. Especially if your teen is considering animal sciences for college or a career.
