Last weekend my daughter and I headed to Universal Orlando Resort to check out Shawn Mendes in concert during Universal Orlando Resort’s 25th Anniversary Concert Series. If you have a tween or teenage daughter, you may have heard of this popular artist. If not, here is a little more information on Shawn:
Shawn started as a YouTube and Vine sensation and has since turned into a huge musical sensation. He released his first single “Life of the Party” on June 27th, 2014. His self-titled EP reached number one on the iTunes charts in under 40 minutes upon being released in July 2014. Shawn is now opening for Taylor Swift on her current tour.
I wasn’t sure what I was in for. I knew how much my daughter adored this artist, but I had no idea just how famous he was. We arrived at Universal’s Islands of Adventure first to ride a few rides and check out the Harry Potter section of the park as my daughter had never experienced it. We had our Butterbeer and then took the train over to Universal Studios to check out the venue where the concert would be held.
Once off the train we went on a few attractions at Universal Studios, then headed over to the stage.
The stage was already being prepped and security was already set up. I just LOVE the backdrop of the
terrifying EXCITING roller coaster. To my surprise, girls were already lined up to be the first to run to the stage once the gate was opened. The employees were very helpful and kind. I inquired about getting close to the stage and was told that because we still had a few hours, we could grab an “early access” ticket. My daughter, after screaming and jumping up and down, asked if we could stay. How could I say no? It reminded me of my New Kids On The Block days. So we stayed and waited it out with about 50 other excited teenage girls. And I’m glad we did. By the time it came to open our gate, there were hundreds and hundreds of girls just waiting for their chance to get to the stage. I thanked the employee and let my girl run as the “tickets only” gate opened.
I stayed in the back and was delighted to find out that EVERY AREA had an amazing view. I think my view from the back was BETTER than my daughters view at the stage edge. I found a bench and grabbed an ice cream and I was set.
My daughter had a night that she will remember for years and years to come. I’m sure some day she will take her children to see their “teen idols” some day and she will remember her first concerts as well.
I highly encourage all parents to take the kids to these family friendly concert events at Universal. If the crowds and loud screaming fans are not for you, no worries. There is plenty of viewing from afar and very large TV screens for you to watch from no matter where you are!
On select nights through June 20, Universal Studios Florida will host a diverse lineup of award-winning, chart-topping artists to celebrate its 25th anniversary year. The excitement of the concert series is included with admission to Universal Studios Florida or with an Annual Pass. For more information, visit www.universalorlando.com.
Disclosure: A huge thank you to Universal Orlando Resort for making my daughters
night YEAR! She will NOT forget this night. We were provided with passes to enter the parks. All opinions are 100% my own.
